Eagles Runaway From Royals in Home Opener

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/9/24) – The Williams Baptist men's basketball team came out on top against Ecclesia 94-51 on Saturday in front of a near-capacity crowd inside the Southerland-Mabee Center on Homecoming.

Rico Quinton led the way in scoring for WBU with 15 on 7-for-10 shooting.  Cooper Rabjohn, Elisha Cofield, and Trahe Qualls piled on 13 each, and Aiden Berry finished in the double digits with 12.  Cofield brought down 12 rebounds to lead the team and secure his second straight double-double.

As a team, WBU shot 51.9 percent from the field on 40-for-77 including 42.9 percent from beyond the three-point line.  The Eagles dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Royals 50-26.  43 of the Eagles points came from the bench.

WBU got out to a 15-7 lead after a 10-2 run was punctuated by an Aiden Berry triple to open the game.  The Eagles used a 15-2 run after that to go up 30-10.  Trahe Qualls knocked one down from deep to give the Eagles a 44-22 lead going into halftime.

The Eagles opened the second half on a 13-2 run to add on to its lead.  A Cooper Rabjohn three-ball put Williams up 42 with five minutes left to play.  The Eagles took their largest lead of the day after a Jaydyn Ramsey layup put the Eagles up 45 with three to play.  The Eagles dribbled out the clock to take a 94-51 win for the first home victory of the 2024-25 season.

The win moves the Eagles to 2-1 on the season.  Next, WBU will travel to Nashville, Tenn. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 to take on Welch College.  Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
