WBU Yields Road Contest to UHSP
The Williams Baptist University women's volleyball team lost to the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 in an American Midwest Conference matchup on Tuesday.
Hope Raymond led the way with six kills for Williams, while also adding 12 digs. Faith Raymond led the team with 15 digs, while Sophie Allred collected 10 assists.
The Eagles and the Eutectics battled close throughout much of the first set, with WBU taking an 11-8 edge early on. WBU continued to hold onto its slight margin late in the set at 19-18, but UHSP went on a 5-0 run to go up 23-19. An attack error and kill from Dayshia Espinosa got the visitors within 23-21, but the Eutectics answered with a kill and a Williams attack error to take the first set.
UHSP carried the momentum in the second and opened with a 6-0 run and pushed their advantage to 15-5 later in the set. Williams found some momentum later on and got within 18-13, but UHSP managed to quell the Eagles comeback and forged ahead to take the set at 25-17.
Williams led 13-10 midway through the third set, but the Eutectics again went on a 5-0 run to take a two points lead. The advantage grew to 20-16 and then another 5-0 run closed out the match to give UHSP the set and the match.
Williams returns to the courts on Tuesday, Oct. 24 for a 6 p.m. road contest at Cottey College.
