WBU’s Late Comeback Falls Short in NAIA Tournament Opening Round

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (3/13/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team saw its 2025-26 campaign come to an end in the first round of the NAIA Women's Basketball Tournament after an 87-67 loss to Lindsey Wilson inside Tine Davis Gymnasium.

Cha'Myrean Ellis led WBU with 19 points. Joi Montgomery recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Cortayza Flowers scored 13 points off the bench, going 5-of-7 from the field.

WBU shot 24-of-63 (38.1 percent) from the field while Lindsey Wilson hit 32-of-61 (52.5 percent). The Blue Raiders out-rebounded WBU 38-35.

Lindsey Wilson took control of the game in the first half, outscoring WBU 22-10 in the opening 10 minutes.

The Lady Eagles stayed in the game in the second quarter by outscoring LWU 27-24 in the period.  A pair of free throws from Zyonna Anderson cut the lead to single digits as WBU went into the locker room down 46-37.

A layup from Ellis to open the third quarter cut the deficit to seven, but LWU kept the pressure on by extending its lead to 20.  Montgomery knocked down a three to end the quarter as LWU led 70-52 going into the final 10 minutes.

The Lady Eagles rallied to start the fourth quarter with a 9-0 swing to close the gap to 70-61.  After a three-point play from the Blue Raiders, Montgomery and Ellis hit back-to-back layups to bring the Lady Eagles within eight with three and a half minutes to play.

That would be as close as WBU got, as Lindsey Wilson shut down the Lady Eagles in the final minutes of the game to push its lead back to 20 points and take the victory.

The Lady Eagles end the season with a 24-6 overall record, marking their third straight season with 20 or more wins.
