Eagles Run Away From Pioneers in NEA Battle
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/6/26) – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team took down Crowley's Ridge in American Midwest Conference action by the final score of 107-71 on Tuesday night inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
Deion Wesson posted his second consecutive 33-point game to lead all scorers on a 12-of-21 clip from the field and 6-of-10 shooting from three-point range, while also dishing out a team-high seven assists. Jesse Washington followed up with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, and Aseem Luckey posted his second straight double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team, WBU went 41-of-72 (56.9 percent) from the field and 11-of-22 (50.0 percent) from three-point range, while holding Crowley's Ridge to just 36.5 percent shooting on the night. WBU lost the rebound battle 43-38, but forced 16 turnovers on defense that turned into 25 points.
After conceding the first basket of the game, an Amarion Wilson layup kicked off a 10-0 run to give WBU a 10-2 lead at the 16:51 mark. A layup from CRC's Kuel Lual cut the lead to seven before a Rico Quinton slam sparked a 7-2 swing to give Williams a 26-14 advantage at the under-10 media timeout.
After a 16-4 run capped off by a layup from Aseem Luckey, Deion Wesson responded to a CRC triple to give Williams a 56-35 lead with under a minute in the first half. The Pioneers made a free throw to end the period as WBU took a 56-36 lead into the break.
Wesson led the Eagles back out of the locker room with a three-pointer to begin the second half that began a 13-6 swing to put Williams up 69-42 at the first media timeout. Kylen Kelly capped off a 10-0 run with a triple at 8:33 left in the game to put the Eagles up 85-52.
Zion Whitmore put the Eagles over the century mark with a layup at 5:40 left in the second half, giving WBU a 101-61 lead. A minute later, Whitmore gave the Eagles their largest lead of the night with a three-pointer that put Williams ahead 104-63.
The win puts Williams at 11-2 overall and 1-1 in AMC play. The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 at home against UHSP. Tipoff against the Eutectics is set for 3 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
