Eagles Fall to Mission in Offensive Shootout
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/7/25) – The Williams Baptist University men's basketball team fell in a shootout to Mission 107-93 in Springfield, Mo. on Tuesday night.
Amarion Wilson led all scorers with 25 points on 7-for-14 shooting with 11 assists for his second double-double of the season. Elisha Cofield scored 22 points on 8-for-12 from the field, and Trahe Qualls added 23 on an 8-for-15 clip with six three-pointers off the bench.
As a unit, WBU went 31-for-63 from the field (49.2 percent) and 14-for-31 (45.2 percent) from three-point range. The Eagles struggled on the glass, losing the rebound battle 40-22 as Mission shot a white-hot 60.6 percent from the field.
Mission grabbed an early lead after an 8-3 run gave the Patriots a 13-7 advantage. Later in the first half, an 11-2 run ballooned the Mission lead to 13. WBU was able to cut the lead to seven after an Amarion Wilson three-point play, but Mission held the Eagles at bay to take a 55-45 lead into halftime.
The Eagles cashed three-straight three-pointers to attempt to mount a comeback, but Mission answered to keep its lead at 10. The Patriots went on a 12-3 run down the stretch to extend its lead and quelled any hopes of a Williams comeback as the Eagles fell 107-93.
The loss drops WBU to 4-7 overall on the season and 1-4 in AMC play. Williams will return home on Thursday, Jan. 9 to take on Central Baptist. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the Southerland-Mabee Center on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
