Lady Eagles Cruise Past Comets for Tenth Consecutive Win

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/29/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team extended its winning streak into the double digits with an 88-49 win over Cottey on Thursday night inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Joi Montgomery led all scorers with 17 points on the night on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.  Chelsea Hamilton followed up with 16 points, and Cha'Myrean Ellis finished in double figures with 11.  Ellis led the team on the boards with seven, and Zyonna Anderson dished out a career-high eight assists.

As a team, Williams shot 39-of-72 (54.2 percent) from the field while holding the Comets to just 18-of-46 (39.1 percent) shooting on the night.  Both teams knocked down six three-pointers.  The Eagles dominated the glass to win the rebound battle 42-21, and put up 38 points off turnovers. 

Chelsea Hamilton got the game started with a triple in the first five seconds.  The Lady Eagles rode the momentum to a game-opening 16-0 run to force a timeout.  WBU out-scored the Comets 28-11 in the opening 10 minutes.

WBU kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter, out-pacing the Comets 30-4 behind 11 points from Montgomery.  The Eagles forced nine turnovers and held Cottey to 2-of-10 from the field to take a 58-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Williams cruised through the second half to secure its tenth-consecutive victory and remain undefeated in the month of January.  

The win moves WBU to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in American Midwest Conference play.  Next, the Lady Eagles play host to (RV) Columbia on Saturday, Jan. 31.  Tipoff against the Cougars is set for 1 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
