Lady Eagles Trounce Owls in Saturday Morning Matchup

FULTON, Mo. (11/8/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team stood tall on defense, defeating William Woods by the final score of 71-47 inside Anderson Arena on Saturday morning.

Cha'Myrean Ellis posted a double-double in the win, leading the Eagles with 26 points on 12-for-20 shooting and 10 rebounds.  Taylor Hooten followed one board short of a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.  Sara Crowe led the team with seven assists.

As a unit, WBU went 29-for-67 (43.3 percent) from the field while holding Woods to just 18-for-72 (25.0 percent) on the other end.  The Lady Eagles also went 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) from the charity stripe.  

Williams won the rebound battle 55-39, scored 16 second chance points, and dominated in the paint with 40 points down low.

After an opening bucket by the Owls, WBU rattled off a 12-1 run to take a 12-3 lead with five minutes left in the first quarter.  WWU battled back to cut the lead to one with a minute and a half to play in the period, but two free throws from Cortayza Flowers put the Eagles ahead 16-13 after one.

WBU began the second quarter with a 9-2 run to make it 24-15, but the Owls made it a one score game again with a layup at three minutes to go in the half.  A Zahryia Baker jumper and free throw from Talyn Davis made it 30-24 going into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Williams strung together a 14-3 run to balloon the lead to 48-34.  WBU outscored the Owls 24-13 in the third quarter to hold onto a 54-37 lead going into the final 10 minutes of play.

The royal and white took its largest lead of the day when a Katelyn Graddy jumper put Williams ahead 71-44 with 1:47 left to play in the contest.  The Lady Eagles held Woods to just 18.2 percent shooting in the fourth quarter to lock up the road victory.

The win moves WBU to 3-1 on the season.  Next, the Lady Eagles will return home on Saturday, Nov. 15 to face Arkansas Baptist.  Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
