Pina Captures AMC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (11/4/24) – For the fourth time this season, Williams Baptist goalkeeper Rodrigo Pina was named American Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in week 11 of the season.

Pina spearheaded a 2-0 week for the Eagles with two shutouts, highlighted by a big win over No. 20 Columbia on Tuesday.  WBU beat a ranked opponent for just the second time this season behind six saves in six attempts for Pina.

The Lisbon, Portugal native recorded his second shutout of the week on Saturday against Hannibal-LaGrange, only needing to secure two saves in the 3-0 victory.

The senior has accumulated a league-leading 12 clean sheets on the year, good for a new WBU school record for shutouts in a season.

Pina and the Eagles will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Nov. 6 for the quarterfinal round of the American Midwest Conference Tournament against Hannibal-LaGrange.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the WBU Soccer Field on the campus of Williams Baptist University.
