WBU Survives Eutectics to Stay Unbeaten at Home

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/10/26) – The Williams Baptist University extended its home game win streak to six in a row with a 117-101 victory over the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Saturday afternoon inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.

Six different Eagles finished in double figures in the win, led by Aseem Luckey with a double-double on 25 points and a season-high 18 rebounds.  Deion Wesson followed up with 24 points with a 5-of-7 clip from three-point range, and Jesse Washington scored 20 points.

As a unit, WBU went 42-of-90 (46.7 percent) from the field and won the rebound battle 53-31.  WBU managed 33 second-chance points, and 66 points in the paint.  It was a very physical matchup, resulting in a combined 72 free throws across the game.  WBU knocked down 26-of-38 (68.4 percent) from the stripe, while UHSP shot at a 29-of-34 (85.3 percent) clip.  Williams led the game wire-to-wire.

Deion Wesson buried a game-opening three to kick off a 10-0 WBU run and force a Eutectic timeout in the early going.  Despite the hot start, UHSP held close to cut the lead to four with 11:55 left in the first half.

An Aseem Luckey slam put WBU up 15 points with 3:08 left to go in the first half, but UHSP cut back into the lead to come within seven with 20 seconds to go.  Jesse Washington converted two free throws to give Williams a nine-point advantage going into halftime.

UHSP kept close with Williams in the early going of the second half, now allowing WBU to break away.  A four-point play from Deion Wesson capped off a seven-point swing to put Williams ahead 70-56 with 16:12 to play, but two foul shots and a three-pointer from UHSP cut the Eagles lead back to nine at the first media timeout.

Three free throws from Jasmin Suvaluja cut the WBU lead to four with 12:02 to play, but a steal and layup from Benjamin Noonan kicked off a 9-2 swing that put the Eagles ahead by 11.

The Eutectics made one final push with another three from Suvaluja to cut the Williams lead to 94-87 with 5:42 to go, but a three-point play from Zion Whitmore jumpstarted a 13-2 run that put the Eagles out of reach.  Williams took its largest lead of the day on a layup from Luckey at 115-96 to put the game away.

The hard-fought win moves WBU to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in American Midwest Conference play.  The Eagles are 6-0 at home to start the season for the first time in modern program history.

Next, the Eagles will travel to face Harris-Stowe on Thursday, Jan. 15.  Tipoff against the Hornets is set for 7:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
