Eagles Defeat HINU 87-73
LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Williams men's basketball team defeated the Haskell Indian Nations University Indians 87-73 on Monday night for their second win of the season.
The Eagles and the Indians swapped baskets in the early goings of the game until the Indians went on a mini-run to lead the Eagles 19-12 halfway through the first half. Ben Keton hit a three-pointer and Isaiah Thompson hit a jumper on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to two. The Eagles would tie it up at 21 a few minutes later when Jayvon Clark made a layup. Duke Hardin would give the Eagles the lead for good with 6:39 left in the first half when he knocked down a three-pointer to give Williams a 26-23 lead. The Eagles would push the lead out ot 49-36 at halftime.
The second half continued much in the way the first half ended. The Eagles maintained their lead and the Indians never really got close to threatening that lead.
Williams shot 49.3% from the field (33-67), 42.9% from the three-point line (12-28), and 81.8% from the free-throw line (9-11).
Hardin led all scorers with 19 points. Keton and TJ Clardy both finished with 13 points, Clark had 11 points, while Rahjon McIntosh contributed 10.
Clardy was just one rebound away from a double-double, finishing with nine to lead the team.
