Eagles Defeat Trojans in 2OT Thriller
The game was tight from the start for the Eagles as they carried a one-point lead into halftime.
Williams led by six with 4:43 left in regulation thanks to a basket from Braxton Haff. The Trojans were able to erase that defecit thanks to jumpers on back-to-back possesions, with the last one coming with an and-one opportunity attached that was converted. The Eagles led by three with 1:42 left and the Trojans tied it at 61 with 1:11 left in the game. The Eagles had the ball with time running out but EJ Anderson missed his three-point attempt. Tyreon Hardin got the offensive rebound and passed it back out to EJ Anderson who shot another three, but couldn't get it to fall either, forcing an overtime period.
Hannibal jumped out to a five point lead with 3:27 left in the first overtime. The Eagles didn't score in the period until the 1:25 mark when Rajhon McIntosh stole the ball and hit a fast-break layup to cut the lead to three. The Trojans responded with a three-pointer to push the lead up to six, then added two free-throws to make it an eight-point lead with :35 left. Hardin then hit a three-pointer with :31 seconds left. McIntosh was fouled with :16 left and converted both of his free-throws to make it a three-point lead for the Trojans. The Trojans missed the front end of a one-and-one and the Eagles quickly got the ball down the court and Haff banked home a three to tie the game at 71 with four seconds left in the overtime period. Immediately after the basket, McIntosh fouled a Trojan player and that sent him to the line where he made one of his free-throws. The Eagles turned the ball over on the inbounds, so the Trojans got the ball back with no time going off the clock. They quickly hit a layup to extend their lead back to three, but the Eagles got the ball into the hands of Jayvon Clark who made a three-point buzzer beater to force a second overtime period.
The second overtime period so the Eagles with a one-point lead with 3:01 remaining. Clark hit another big three-pointer with 2:11 left to give the Eagles a four-point lead. The Trojans then made layups on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 80 with :40 left. Clark was fouled with :11 left and knocked down both of his free-thows to give the Eagles the lead back. Hannibal had one more chance with the ball on the offensive end, but weren't able to knock down a three-point shot.
Haff led the Eagles with 17 pts, McIntosh had 16, Clark had 12, and Hardin had 10.
McIntosh led the team on the boards with 7.
The Eagles shot 32.2% from the field (29-90), 23.5% from the three-point line (8-34), and 55.2% from the free-throw line (16-29).
