Eagles Fall to Columbia 81-70 in AMC Quarterfinals

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Williams Baptist men's basketball team fell on the road at Columbia College 81-70 in the AMC Quarterfinals on Thursday night.

The Eagles were hot offensively in the first half, shooting 52% from the field and 8-13 from behind the three-point arc. They jumped out to an 11-5 lead to start the game, then the Cougars went on a run to come back and take the lead. From that point through the end of the half, it was a back-and-forth close game that saw the Eagles going into halftime leading by one.

The game remained close for the first part of the second half, until the Cougars took the lead for good with 12 minutes left. They would build the lead up to ten, but the Eagles would fight back and make it a one-point lead. However, they couldn't take the lead and the Cougars went on another run and pushed the lead back out to as many as 16 for the rest of the game.

Jaylen Granger (SO/Chicago, Ill.) led the Eagles with 16 points, while Shackeel Butters (SR/Freeport, Bahamas) led them on the boards with 10.

For the game, the Eagles shot 44.6% from the field (25-56), 58.8% from the three-point line (10-17), and 71.4% from the free-throw line (10-14).
