Eagles Drop Close One Against Philander Smith

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Eagles dropped a close game at home to Philander Smith, 64-57, on Monday night.

It was a tight game for much of the first half. The Panthers were able to build up an eight-point lead midway through the half, but the Eagles were able to claw their way back to take a one-point lead into halftime.

It remained a close game in the second half, as the Eagles held the lead for the first seven minutes or so of the half, until the Panthers hit a three-pointer to take a one-point lead. Then it was a back-and-forth affair for a few minutes, when the Panthers took a 46-44 lead and never surrendered the lead for the rest of the game.

Brayden Brewer (SR/Piggott, Ark.) led the Eagles with 12 points. Brian Davis (SR/Chicago, Ill.) and Jordan Johnson (FR/Missouri City, Texas) both had 11, with Johnson coming off the bench.

Davis led the team with 10 rebs, followed by Cortez King (SR/Chicago, Ill.) with 8. King also had 5 steals on the night.
