Eagles Upset No. 1 Seed Cougars in 2-0 Start at AMC Tournament
BRANSON, Mo. (4/27/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team won its first two games of the American Midwest Conference Tournament over No. 5 UHSP and No. 1 Columbia at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex on Monday.
GAME ONE - No. 4 Williams 12, No. 5 UHSP 2 (7 Innings)
Cade Parks, Gavin Mink, Mari Thomas, Skylar Morrison, and Lawson Aaron each put up multi-hit games in the opening game of the AMC Tournament. The Eagles out-hit the Eutectics 14-6 with five extra base hits.
The Eagles scored the game's first runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead after RBI doubles from Thomas and Morrison. Mink drove in another run with a triple in the second to extend the lead.
WBU continued the early rally with a three-run third inning highlighted by a two-run single from Cade Parks that gave the Eagles six unanswered runs in the first three innings.
After a pair of scoreless innings, Morrison and Aaron each drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the Eagles ahead 8-0. UHSP cut into the lead on a two-run triple in the top of the seventh, but Williams responded with a four-run bottom of the seventh to earn the run-rule victory.
Dawson Cloud (W, 5-4) allowed just two runs in 7.0 innings to lead WBU to the win. Cloud tossed just 74 pitches in the complete game winner.
GAME TWO - No. 4 Williams 8, No. 1 Columbia 4
Cade Parks (3-5, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) and Lawson Aaron (4-5, RBI) led the way on offense for the Eagles in game two.
The Cougars struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but WBU responded with a three-spot in the top of the second on an RBI single from Will Riley and a two-RBI single from Cade Parks.
Columbia cut the lead to one with a run in the bottom of the third before Cade Parks went yard in the top of the fourth to extend the lead to 5-2. An inning later, Lawson Aaron singled to make it 6-2 in favor of WBU.
Williams added on two more runs in the seventh and the ninth to go into the final frame of the game ahead 8-3.
The Cougars loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate, but Connor Brinkley notched the final two outs to secure the upset win.
Ben Bledsoe turned in 4.0 solid innings in his start with three earned runs allowed. Brady Swims (W, 5-0) shut down the Cougars in the late innings to earn the win in relief. Swims allowed just one run and struck out six in 4.1 innings of work.
The Eagles improve to 30-17 overall this season. WBU advances to face Central Baptist on the winner's side of the bracket at 1 p.m. tomorrow from Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.
