Morrison Sets Single-Season RBI Record; Brinkley Homers to Lead Eagles to Sweep of Patriots

OZARK, Mo. (4/17/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team won the first two games of a three game series against Mission on Friday at Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.

GAME ONE - Williams 5, Mission 1

Skylar Morrison (2-4, HR, 3 RBI) and Gavin Mink (3-4, 2B, RBI) led the way on offense for WBU.

Cade Parks drew first blood with an RBI double in the top of the second inning to put Williams ahead 1-0.  Will Riley scored on a groundout later in the frame to go ahead 2-0 in the early going.

Mission got a run of its own on a groundout in the third to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

WBU kept its slim advantage until Skylar Morrison erupted for a three-run homer to left in the top of the fifth to put the Eagles ahead 5-1.  Morrison's 11th bomb of the season tied the WBU single-season record, and the three RBI gave him the new single season RBI record at Williams.

Dawson Cloud (W, 4-4) shut down the Patriots all game, allowing just the one unearned run in 7.0 innings of work.  Cloud did not allow a baserunner in the final three innings of the ballgame.

GAME TWO - Williams 7, Mission 5

Connor Brinkley (3-5, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI) and Lawson Aaron (2-4, 2 RBI) led the comeback win for WBU in the second game of the doubleheader.

Mission struck for two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.  WBU's first two runs came in the top of the fourth before Mission posted two more in the bottom of the inning to get back in front 4-2.

Williams tied the game once again at 4-4 with a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI single from Aaron and a run on a fielder's choice.

The Patriots got back in front in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded single.  With one out, Brady Swims was able to work out of the jam with just the one run allowed to send the Eagles into the ninth down a run at 5-4.

In the ninth, after the first two batters were retired, Skylar Morrison lit a spark with a two-out triple to put the tying run 90 feet away from scoring.  Lawson Aaron followed up with a single to tie the game at 5-5.

With two outs in a tie game in the top of the ninth, Connor Brinkley unleashed a two-run moonshot to left field to give WBU its first lead of the game at 7-5.

After a Patriot leadoff single, Swims (W, 4-0) induced a double play and struck out the final batter to secure the series win for the Eagles.  Swims struck out three in his 1.2 shutout innings of work.

Ben Bledsoe got the start for WBU, turning in 6.0 innings with three earned runs allowed alongside four strikeouts.  Cooper Thomas allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings of relief.

The pair of wins moves WBU to 28-16 overall and 13-6 in AMC play.  Next, Williams will close out its series against Mission on Saturday, April 18 in Ozark, Mo.  First pitch of the series finale is set for noon from Ozark Mountain Sports Complex.
