Eagles Sweep CRC in Friday Doubleheader
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/10/26) – The Williams Baptist University baseball team swept Crowley's Ridge in a doubleheader in American Midwest Conference action on Friday at Shell Field.
GAME ONE - Williams 4, Crowley's Ridge 2
Will Riley (2-3, 2 RBI, 2B) led the way at the plate for the Eagles.
CRC began the game with two hits and a walk to load the bases, and scored the game's first run on an RBI groundout. Gabe Dirnberger worked a strikeout and a flyout to get out of the inning with just the one run on the board.
WBU responded in the bottom of the second when Mason Andrews came home on a wild pitch. Will Riley followed up with an RBI single to put Williams ahead 2-1.
The Pioneers tied the game at 2-2 on a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the top of the fourth. Williams answered back again in the fifth with another RBI from Riley, this time a double, to put the Eagles ahead 3-2. Riley came home on an error later in the frame to make it 4-2.
Despite the Pioneers out-hitting the Eagles 10-4, Eagles pitching worked to strand 10 CRC runners on base.
Brady Swims (W, 3-0) earned the win in 3.1 innings with just one run allowed. Cooper Thomas (Sv, 1) tossed a perfect seventh inning to lock up the win in the series opener.
Despite the Pioneers out-hitting the Eagles 10-4, Eagles pitching worked to strand 10 CRC runners on base.
With the win in game one, the Eagles clinched a spot in the American Midwest Conference Tournament in Ozark, Mo., on April 27-30.
GAME TWO - Williams 7, Crowley's Ridge 2
Mari Thomas (2-3, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) and Skylar Morrison (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B) led the Eagles' offense in game two.
CRC struck for the game's first run once again in the top of the second, but another RBI double from Will Riley on the day tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
The Pioneers got back in front at the top of the third inning and kept the Eagles quiet on offense in the third and fourth.
Down a run in the fifth, Mari Thomas came through with a two-run homer to put Williams ahead 3-2. Bodey Ellis followed up with a pinch-hit RBI double later in the inning to extend the lead to 4-2.
Williams added three more runs in the sixth, with two on an error and one on a bases-loaded walk to Parker Cook that made it 7-2.
Connor Brinkley (Sv, 4) held the Pioneers to just one hit in the final three innings to clinch the series win. Dawson Cloud (W, 3-4) allowed just one earned run in 6.0 innings of work as the starter.
The wins moved Williams to 26-15 overall and 11-5 in AMC play. The Eagles will wrap up the series with CRC on Saturday, April 11, for Senior Day. First pitch is set for noon from Shell Field, with Senior Day festivities set to begin at 11:35 a.m.
