Eagles Split Doubleheader with Scots

The Williams baseball team split a doubleheader Friday afternoon with Lyon College with the Eagles winning game one 1-0 and the Scots taking game two 3-2 at Fred Wann Field.

The split moves WBU's record to 23-25 overall and 10-10 in the American Midwest Conference, while Lyon is now 17-22 overall and also 10-10 in conference play.

The winner of Saturday's rubber match will be the fourth seed going into next week's AMC Conference championship tournament. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Game one saw both pitchers pitch seven-inning, complete games with WBU scoring the game's only run in the top of the fifth inning.

Dylan Creech reached with a 1-out triple to get into scoring position and Skylar Morrison delivered with an RBI single in the next at-bat to plate the game's only run.

On the mound, Parker Jefferies yielded seven hits with two strikeouts and just one walk. He allowed just two base runners to reach second base all night, as both struggled to find answers for the opposing pitchers on the mound.

In game two, Lyon got on the scoreboard in the first inning on a passed ball and then pushed its advantage to 2-0 on an RBI single by Zane Wallace in the fourth inning.

Morrison put the Eagles within a run in the sixth inning with a solo home run, but the Scots got the run back in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to keep the lead at 3-1.

Luis Febres tripled in a run in the eighth inning to get within 3-2, but he was left stranded in scoring position and WBU failed to push across the tying run in the ninth inning to fail in the nightcap.
