Williams Edges Hannibal-LaGrange on Senior Day

The Williams baseball team picked up a pair of victories over Hannibal-LaGrange with a 9-2 victory in game one and a 13-3 win in game two. The victories moved the Eagles record to 21-23 overall and 8-9 in the American Midwest Conference.

In game one the Eagles wasted no time in jumping out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. Jarron Brantley, Dylan Creech, Lis Febres and Tate Isaacs all drove runs in the inning.

Isaacs had a big day at the plate and finished 1-for-4 with four RBIs, including a three-run home run in the fifth inning that pushed the WBU lead to 8-1. That home run came on the heels of a wild pitch that allowed Jacob Watkins to score in the second inning as well.

Dezmond Cordova added a solo home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning to round out scoring for the Eagles in the first game.

Noah Willingham tossed six innings and gave up just two runs on nine hits and struck out two to earn the win.

In game two, the bats continued to stay hot for WBU, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Watkins.

Already leading 4-0 in the third innings, Watkins pushed the lead to 8-0 with the monster shot that brought the home crowd to its feet.

Cordova added his second home run of the day with a two-run blast in the seventh inning that helped send the game to a final in seven innings. The sophomore from North Little Rock finished the day with three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs.

WBU found multiple to score, including an RBI single off the bat of Skylar Morrison and sacrifice flies from Watkins and Creech. Trae Barnes drove in a run with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, while Nicholas Jones had an RBI double.

On the mound Parker Jeffries tossed 6 ⅔ innings of work and surrendered just three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts for his first win of the season.

The series finale will be played Monday afternoon at Shell Field at 1 p.m.
