Eagles Split Friday Doubleheader with (8) Missouri Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark - The Williams baseball team split their Friday doubleheader with (8) Missouri Baptist, falling 2-1 in 10 innings in game one and winning game two 8-4.

Game One

The first game of the day was a close, pitcher's dual. The Eagles took the lead in the third inning when Jacob Watkins hit a home run to left field. The Spartans tied it at one in the fifth when a runner was allowed to scored thanks to a throwing error by the right fielder. It remained tied after the scheduled seven innings, so extras were needed. The Eagles loaded the bases in the eighth, but were unable to bring the winning run home. The Spartans took the lead in the 10th inning thanks to solo home run to left field. 

Parker Jeffries got the start and pitched 9.0 innings. He allowed one run off seven hits, walked one and struck out five. Cole Edwards pitched 1.0 inning of relief and allowed one run off one hit and walked one. 

Game Two

Both teams came out swinging in the second game. The Spartans plated three runs in the first, but the Eagles quickly responded with three of their own in the home half as Dylan Creech hit a RBI single and Jeffries hit a 2 RBI single. The Spartans retook the lead in the second with a sac fly to make it 4-3. The Eagles plated three runs in the third as Creech hit a solo homerun to right field, Jacob Watkins hit a RBI single, and then Jeffries scored on a wild pitch. Williams added to their lead with a run in the fourth after Tate Isaacs hit a RBI single and then a run in the sixth when Drake Gravatt scored on a passed ball. 

Skylar Morrison got the start and pitched 5.0 innings. He allowed four runs off eight hits, walked five and struck out eight. Jolby Jones pitched 2.0 innings of relief and walked one while striking out three.

The two teams will play a rubber match tomorrow at Shell Field with first pitch now at 11 a.m.
