Eagles Complete Series Sweep Over Hornets With 12-4 Win
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team completed their series sweep of the Harris-Stowe State Hornets with a 12-4 win on Friday. With the win, the Eagles are now 18-16 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
With an 8:30 am start time, the Eagles and the Hornets were in a race to get the game in before the expected inclement weather arrives this afternoon. The Hornets came out ready to go and scored two runs in the first inning. The Eagles responded with two runs of their own in the first after Tate Isaacs and Parker Jeffries both drew walks with the bases loaded to tie the game. Williams took the lead with six runs in the second inning. Nicholas Jones hit a RBI sac fly, Luis Febres hit a 2 RBI single, Skylar Morrison hit a RBI single, and then Dezmond Cordova was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Harris-Stowe got a run back thanks to a solo homerun in the sixth inning, making it 8-3. In the sixth, Jacob Watkins scored a run on a wild pitch. In the seventh, the HSSU scored a run to make it 9-4. Williams plated three runs in the eighth when Cordova reached base because of catcher's interference with the bases loaded, Jarron Brantley hit a RBI sac fly, and Cordova scored because of an errant pickoff throw by the pitcher.
Skylar Morrison got the start on the mound and pitch 6.2 innings. He allowed four runs off eight hits, walked two and struck out five. Cash Forrester pitched 2.1 innings of relief and walked one.
