Eagles Sweep Doubleheader Over Hornets

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team swept their doubleheader with the Harris-Stowe State Hornets on Thursday, winning 10-1 and 5-4. With the win, the Eagles are now 17-16 overall and 4-4 in conference play.

Game One

The Eagles plated two runs in the third inning when Dezmond Cordova hit a RBI double and then scored a few minutes later thanks to an error by the catcher. Williams extended their lead with six runs in the fifth. Cordova got things started again with a RBI single and later scored thanks to an error by the third baseman, Luis Febres then hit a grand slam to make it 8-0. In the sixth, Jacob Watkins and Dylan Creech both hit RBI singles to give the Eagles a 10-0 lead. The Hornets got a run back thanks to a solo homerun in the seventh, but that was all. 

Noah Willingham pitched a complete game and allowed one run off three hits, walked one and struck out six. 

Game Two

The Eagles continued on their hot offensive streak to start the second game, scoring two runs in the first when Creech reached on an error that allowed Drake Gravatt to score and then Febres hit a RBI single. The Hornets got a run back in the third thanks to a wild pitch. Williams made it 5-1 in the third when Skylar Morrison hit a 2 RBI single and then Trae Barnes hit a RBI single to score Morrison. HSSU got a solo homerun in the fourth and a RBI single in the eighth to make it 5-3. They scored a run in the ninth to make it a one-run game, but the Eagles were able to end the game by catching a runner trying to steal second base. 

Parker Jeffries got the start and pitched 8.2 innings. He allowed four runs off nien hits, walked one, and struck out seven. Cole Edwards pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief.

The Eagles and Hornets are going to attempt to get the final game of the series in tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. first pitch.
