Brantley's Walkoff RBI Single Gives Eagles A Tuesday Split With BMCU

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team split their Tuesday doubleheader with the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers. The Eagles walked off game one to win 8-7 and fell in game two 7-3.

Game One

The Eagles took an early lead by plating four runs in the first. Nicholas Jones reached first on an error that allowed Dezmond Cordova to score. Tate Isaacs hit a 2 RBI single to left field and then Skylar Morrison reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an errant throw by the third baseman that allowed Jacob Watkins to score. Williams extended their lead in the second when Jones hit a RBI single to right field. The Toppers got a run in the third and then three runs in the sixth to make it a 5-4 Williams lead. Luis Febres put the Eagles back up by two runs with a RBI single in the home half of the sixth. BMCU took a 7-6 lead in the seventh, but the Eagles weren't giving up. Williams started out the seventh with a foul pop out and a ground out, but Trae Barnes singled and Aaron Maragni walked to flip the lineup card back to the top. Cordova then hit a RBI single to right field to tie the game. Jarron Brantley hit a slow roller on the infield and beat the throw to first; this allowed Cameron McCoy to come home and score.

Cash Forrester got the start and pitched 6.0 innings. He allowed four runs off five hits, walked five and struck out five. Eric Tolar pitched 1/3 of an inning in relief and allowed three runs off two hits and walked one. Cole Doke pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief, walked one and struck out one.

Game Two

The second game of the day did not go as well for the Eagles. The Toppers came out swinging the bats and scored two runs in the first, a run in the second, and a run in the third to take a 4-0 lead. The Eagles plated two in the third when Cordova hit a RBI double and Brantley followed that with a RBI single. BMCU continued to hit and plated two more runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Williams would get one more run in the fifth when Chas Bell scored on a wild pitch, but that would be all.

Cole Edwards got the start and pitched 2.0 innings. He allowed four runs off five hits and walked two. Parker Jeffries pitched 5.0 innings in relief and allowed three runs off six hits, walked two and struck out four.
