Lady Eagles Fall to Comets in Four Sets
NEVADA, Mo. (10/3/25) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team fell to Cottey by the final score of 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 14-25, 10-25) on Friday night inside Hinkhouse Center.
Tinleigh Ruhman led the Eagles with six kills on the night. Alicea Epherson and Natalie Collier each followed up with five in the contest. Hope Raymond led the team on the back row with a season-high 26 digs, and Desirae Walker led WBU with 12 assists.
As a team, the Lady Eagles posted 30 kills, 19 assists, and 75 digs.
Down 21-14, the Lady Eagles went on a 7-1 run to shrink the Comet lead to two. Despite the comeback bid, Cottey finished off the final three points to take the set and take a 1-0 set lead.
In the second set, the Eagles held a 21-18 lead after a kill from Alicea Epherson, but Cottey stormed back with a six-point swing to take the lead 24-21. With set point in hand for the Comets, WBU took six of the last seven points, including four in a row behind two kills from Epherson to take the set win 27-25.
Cottey controlled the match for much of the final two sets, taking a 25-14 win in the third and a dominant 25-10 win in the fourth where the comets took 14 of the first 15 points to clinch the match win.
The win drops WBU to 1-17 overall and 0-8 in conference play. Williams will return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 4 against Mission at 9 a.m. and Harris-Stowe at 1 p.m. from Hinkhouse Center in Nevada, Mo.
