Eagles Battle Late in Loss to Wildcats
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (9/23/25) – The Williams Baptist University volleyball team fell in straight sets to Bethel on Saturday night inside the Southerland-Mabee Center by the final score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-23).
Payton Bond led the Lady Eagles attack with eight kills on a .238 hit percentage. She also tied for the lead in blocks in the match with Darcy Broglin at two. Hope Raymond led the team on the back row with 13 digs, and Amber Kahler led with 11 assists.
As a team, WBU totaled 25 kills and 23 assists in the contest.
Bethel surged to take the lead in the first set with a 9-3 run to start the match. A six point swing put the Wildcats ahead 19-8 as BU cruised to the first set win.
An 8-0 run in the second set gave Bethel a 19-6 lead. BU won the second set in much the same way as the first to take a 2-0 match lead.
The two squads traded blows in the third frame. A kill from Alicea Epherson gave WBU a 9-6 lead and forced the first Bethel timeout of the night. Williams managed to stay one step ahead of Bethel until a late kill from Clara Feresin tied the match at 22. BU took three of the final four points to win the set and the match.
The loss drops WBU to 1-13 on the season. The Lady Eagles will return to AMC action this weekend in St. Louis, Mo., starting with a match against UHSP on Friday, Oct. 26. First serve against the Eutectics is set for 6 p.m.
