Marin’s Late Goal Gives Lady Eagles Third Straight Victory

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark.  (8/29/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's soccer team took the win in its home opener against Hendrix by the final score of 1-0 on Friday behind a late goal from Valentina Marin.

Williams led the game in shots 10-4 on the day, landing three on goal.  Hendrix also put two shots on goal, both saved by Eagles keeper Nevaeh Larkins.

WBU had an early chance in the game when Yajaira Alvarado put a shot high in the third minute.  In the ninth, Hendrix had a chance of their own saved by Larkins to keep the score levelled.

The defensive back-and-forth battle continued through halftime, then for much of the second half.  Hendrix had a chance to go ahead in the 84th minute, but the sure-handed Larkins preserved the game with another save.

In the 86th minute, WBU finally broke through with a goal from Valentina Marin over the keeper's head with an assist from Illusion Preciado.  The Eagles defended the lead for the final four and a half minutes to take its third consecutive win.

Williams continues its best start in program history, going 3-0 in its first three matches for the first time ever.

Next, WBU will take on Texas A&M-Texarkana in the front half of a split doubleheader with the men's team.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Soccer Field.
