Pena Scores Twice in Loss to Owls

FULTON, Mo. (10/12/24) – Irene Cabanas Pena netted two scores as the Williams Baptist University women's soccer team fell in an American Midwest Conference contest to William Woods by the final score of 6-2.

Pena found open space on a breakaway in the 35th minute of the match to bury her first career goal that cut the Eagles' deficit to five.

Out of the locker room, the Owls' defense opened up for Pena again to slot in her second unassisted score of the day in the 47th minute.  She took two shots in the match, and landed both on target for scores.

William Woods netted the game's first score in the fourth minute of the match on an unassisted score of Hannah Loethen.  Woods went on to score five goals in the next 15 minutes to break the game open.

Gracielee Edwards made seven saves in 90 minutes in her third career start at goalkeeper for WBU.

The loss drops the Eagles to 1-2 in conference play and 3-9 overall.  The team will look to get back to even in AMC play on Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 19 against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.  Kick-off is set for 1 p.m., with Senior Day activities scheduled before the match begins from the WBU Soccer Field.
