WBU Women’s Soccer Falls in Season Opener

The Williams Baptist University women's soccer team opened its 2023 season with a 9-0 loss to Evangel Friday night at Coryell Field.

The Valor scored on nine of their 19 shots on goal on the night, while limiting the Lady Eagles to just one shot attempt from Stacy Hernandez

In goal, Kerrigan Kinsey made 10 saves for WBU.

Evangel scored in the second minute on a goal by Grayson Murphy and then added a pair of goals from Anna Crain and McKenzie Calhoun. Murphy added her second of the night early in the second half to go up 5-0, while Emily Oedewaldt converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute to go up 7-0. Sophie Weeks and Athena DeMera also added goals for the Valor.

Williams returns to action Tuesday, Aug. 29 for its home opener against Texas A&M Texarkana. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the WBU Soccer Field.

WBU is a private, Christian university in Walnut Ridge.
