Lady Eagles Take Care of Hornets at Home
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/12/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team took down Harris-Stowe by the final score of 98-79 on Thursday night inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
As a team, WBU shot a season-high 60.3 percent (35-for-58) from the field while holding Harris-Stowe to 29-of-71 (40.8 percent) from the floor. WBU won the rebound battle 46-25, and scored 44 points in the paint.
Cha'Myrean Ellis and Sara Crowe both led the offensive attack for WBU with 21 points each. Joi Montgomery followed with 20, Chelsea Hamilton piled on 14, and Lakiya Scott scored 10 off the bench.
Harris-Stowe jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the start of the game, but a 7-0 Eagle run gave WBU its first lead of the night. The Hornets led 22-17 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Eagles began the second quarter with a 13-1 swing capped off by a Lakiya Scott triple to go ahead 30-23. A pair of free throws from Sara Crowe put the Eagles up by 12, but Harris-Stowe cut the lead to eight at the end of the first half.
A pair of free throws from J'Lessa Jordan brought Harris-Stowe back within a possession at 46-43, but five points from Lakiya Scott and a jumper from Chelsea Hamilton put the Eagles back ahead by 10.
Williams continued to fend off the Hornets offensive attack throughout the fourth quarter, never leading by less than eight in the final 10 minutes. A pair of free throws from Hamilton put WBU up 98-77 in the final 30 seconds, and Williams coasted to the final buzzer to take the win.
The victory moves WBU to 19-4 overall and 13-2 in conference play. Next, the Lady Eagles will return to the Southerland-Mabee Center for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Mission. Tipoff against the Patriots is scheduled for 1 p.m.
