Lady Eagles Fall to Cougars at Home
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/31/26) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team had a 10-game win streak snapped after falling to (RV) Columbia by the final score of 78-63 on Saturday afternoon inside the Southerland-Mabee Center.
Joi Montgomery led the scoring charge for the Lady Eagles with 15 points on the day. Chelsea Hamilton followed with 12, and Cha'Myrean Ellis and Sara Crowe finished with 11. Crowe finished one rebound short of a double-double with a team-high of nine boards.
As a team, WBU went 25-of-69 (36.2 percent) from the field while Columbia shot at a 29-of-61 (47.5 percent) clip in the contest. WBU lost the rebound battle 48-31, but were +9 in the turnover battle to score 19 points off turnovers.
The Eagles took an early lead after layups from Joi Montgomery and Cha'Myrean Ellis in the first two minutes of the game. A three-point play from Sara Crowe put the Eagles ahead 15-9 with 2:30 left in the first quarter. Columbia ended the period on a four-point swing to cut the lead to one.
The Cougars began the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take the lead at 23-15. Chelsea Hamilton responded with a three to kick off a 7-0 Eagle run and cut the deficit to one, but Columbia pushed the lead back out to seven with a triple. WBU went into the locker room down 43-33.
Columbia stayed red-hot in the third to keep the Lady Eagles in check, shooting at a 58.3 percent clip from the field in the third. The Lady Eagles kept up, but failed to close the deficit as Columbia took the win.
The loss snaps a 10-game win streak for the Lady Eagles dating back to December. WBU drops to 15-4 overall and 8-2 in AMC play. Next, Williams will travel to Paragould, Ark. to face Crowley's Ridge on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Tipoff against the Pioneers is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Carter Activities Center.
