Lady Eagles Shine on Defense for Eighth Straight Victory
HANNIBAL, Mo. (1/16/25) – The Williams Baptist University women's basketball team dominated on the defensive side of the ball to win its eighth consecutive game with an 83-35 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange in Hannibal, Mo. on Thursday night.
Kaylee Isaacs led the team with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting as she knocked down all four of the team's three-pointers. Cortayza Flowers followed up with 16 off the bench on 8-for-12 shooting, and Charmen Taylor finished in the double-digits with 11 on 5-for-10 from the field. Taylor also took the team lead in rebounds, collecting seven boards on the night.
As a team, Williams went 24-for-75 (45.3 percent) from the field. The Lady Eagles shined on defense in the contest, holding the Trojans to a 10-for-49 (20.4 percent) clip and 0-for-10 from three-point range. WBU out-rebounded HLGU 44-26 and scored 44 points off 26 Trojan turnovers.
The Trojans scored the game's first bucket to take a 2-0 lead in the opening 10 seconds, but Williams went on to hold Hannibal scoreless for the rest of the first quarter, out-scoring the Trojans 27-2 after 10 minutes.
WBU continued to suffocate the Trojan offense as the Eagles held HLGU scoreless for seven minutes after a Trojan bucket one minute into the quarter. Williams took a 51-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Eagles took their largest lead of the night after a Cortayza Flowers layup put WBU up 61 points with 1:25 left in the third quarter. WBU comfortably closed the game out for the 83-35 win and the team's eighth straight victory.
The win moves WBU to 13-3 overall on the season and 9-1 in conference play.
Next, WBU will continue its roadstand in Nevada, Mo. against Cottey. Tip-off against the Comets is set for Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
