Taylor's Career Night Powers Eagles to Seventh Straight Win
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (1/14/25) – Carmen Taylor dropped a career-high 36 points as the Williams Baptist University women's basketball team ran away with a 98-59 win over Central Baptist on Tuesday night.
Taylor led all scorers with 36 points on 12-for-27 from the field, including five three-pointers. The effort tops her previous high of 33 points that she set last year against Central Baptist.
Seanlajah Smith broke out for 14 points off the bench on 6-for-7 from the field. Taylor Hooten, Kaylee Isaacs, and Monica Horne also scored in the double digits with 10 points each. Sara Crowe led the team on the glass with a season-high 10 rebounds.
As a team, WBU shot 37-for-78 (47.4 percent) from the field and knocked down nine three-pointers. The Eagles defense smothered the Mustangs, as CBC shot 23-for-65 (35.4 percent) from the field. The Lady Eagles forced 26 Mustang turnovers that turned into 36 points.
Monica Horne woke up the Eagles offense in the first quarter with a layup that kicked off a 9-0 Eagle run. CBC came back to take the lead with a minute to go in the stanza, but a Carmen Taylor half court buzzer beater sent the Eagles into the break up 19-14.
Williams continued the momentum into the second quarter as a Charmen Taylor jumper capped off a 10-0 run that put Williams up 26-14. The Eagles dominated defensively in the second quarter, out-scoring the Mustangs 33-8. WBU ended the first half on a 9-0 run to go into the locker room up 52-22.
The Eagles continued to lock down the Mustangs on defense and WBU continued to add on throughout the second half as the team took a 41 point lead with two minutes left for its largest advantage of the contest. WBU closed out the game for a 98-59 win over its in-state rival.
The win moves WBU to 12-3 overall on the season and 8-1 in AMC play. Next, the Lady Eagles kick-off a four-game roadstand on Thursday, Jan. 16 on the road against Hannibal-LaGrange. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Hannibal, Mo.
