Caldwell Outlasts Eutectics in 13-Inning Shutout at AMC Tournament Elimination Game

BRANSON, Mo. (4/29/26)  – The Williams Baptist University softball team split the day after a 13-inning complete game shutout from Emberlin Caldwell kept the Eagles alive in the American Midwest Conference Tournament at the Branson Rec-Plex on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE - Central Baptist 3, Williams 1

Brooke Scott (2-4) and Ashlyn Michael (1-3, 2B, RBI) led the way in the box for WBU.

The Mustangs got all three of their runs on a three-run home run in the third inning.  WBU struck back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double from Ashlyn Michael that cut the lead to 3-1.

The Lady Eagles stranded the bases loaded in the fourth, and had opportunities with runners on in the fifth, sixth, and seventh, but were unable to convert as CBC came away with the win in the low-scoring affair.

Morgan Garner (L, 17-8) kept Williams in the game with no runs allowed in the contest outside of the fourth inning.  Garner scattered eight hits across seven innings with three strikeouts.

GAME TWO - Williams 2, UHSP 0 (13 Innings)

The Lady Eagles turned around to face UHSP in an elimination game right after the first game.

The game was a grueling pitchers' dual that was scoreless through the first 12 innings.

Emberlin Caldwell (W, 22-4) pitched the entire 13-inning affair with zero runs allowed.  Caldwell fanned six Eutectics and scattered five hits.

Both sides stranded a combined 23 runners on base in the longest game in AMC Tournament history.

The Lady Eagles finally broke through in the top of the thirteenth inning when Addison Foster crushed a two-run homer to left field that put Williams on top 2-0, that proved to be all the runs needed in the game.

With her 14th home run of the season, Foster tied the WBU single season record for home runs, held by Shelby Anderson in 2013.

WBU improved to 41-12 overall on the season, and advanced in the AMC Tournament to face Cottey in an elimination game on Thursday, April 30.  First pitch against the Comets is set for 2 p.m. from the Branson Rec-Plex in Branson, Mo.
