Lady Eagles Claim Fifth AMC Title in Program History
WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/23/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team clinched its fifth American Midwest Conference regular season championship in program history after a sweep of Cottey on Thursday afternoon at the WBU Softball Field.
GAME ONE - Williams 4, Cottey 1
Brooke Scott (2-4, 2B) and Addison Foster (2-3, RBI) led the way for the Lady Eagles on offense in game one.
Cottey got on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Eagles responded in the bottom of the frame when Addison Foster drove in Brooke Scott with a single to tie the game at 1-1.
Madyson Busselle broke the tie in the third with an RBI double, and Breann Thresher followed up with an RBI single to put WBU in the lead 3-1.
The Lady Eagles got an insurance run on a squeeze play from Kaylee Wolfe that scored Ally Caudle to go ahead 4-1 after six innings.
After allowing a solo homer in the first, Emberlin Caldwell (W, 20-4) locked down in the circle to secure the win. The junior allowed just three hits and struck out five for her 20th win of the season.
GAME TWO - Williams 4, Cottey 1
Madyson Busselle (3-3) and Kaylee Wolfe (2-2, 2B, RBI) led the offense in game two of the twinbill.
Williams drew first blood in the bottom of the first when Brooke Scott singled to score Kaylee Wolfe. Scott scored later in the inning on an error to put WBU ahead 2-0 after the opening frame.
Ashlyn Michael doubled home Busselle in the third to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Cottey broke up the shutout in the top of the fifth with an RBI double, but Wolfe got the run back for the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the sixth to put WBU back in front by three.
Morgan Garner (W, 17-7) allowed just one earned run and scattered eight hits in the complete game win. Garner worked to strand nine Comets on base to keep the Lady Eagles in front from wire to wire.
With the wins, WBU clinched its fifth AMC regular season championship in program history, and secured its first bid to the NAIA Tournament since 2016. The Lady Eagles secured the automatic bid in the AMC designated for the regular season champion.
Williams finished the regular season with an overall record of 39-11 and a 17-1 mark in conference play.
Next, the Lady Eagles will compete in the American Midwest Conference Tournament as the first overall seed. The Lady Eagles will face the 8-seed in the first round on Tuesday, April 28 at noon from Branson, Mo.
