Lady Eagles Sweep Stars in Road Doubleheader
COLUMBIA, Mo. (4/18/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team put up a pair of wins in American Midwest Conference action against Stephens on Saturday afternoon at American Legion Park.
GAME ONE - Williams 9, Stephens 1
Kaylee Wolfe (1-3, 3 RBI) and Kaelyn Gooch (2-3, 2B, RBI) led the Eagles on offense in game one of the doubleheader.
Brooke Scott scored the game's first run in the top of the first on a passed ball to give the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 advantage.
After a scoreless second, Kaylee Wolfe brought home Ally Caudle to make it 2-0, and Stephens cut the lead in half with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Lady Eagles broke the game open in the fourth with a six-run frame to get ahead 8-1. Addison Foster and Madyson Busselle scored on an error for the first two runs, then Mariah Loya scored on a fielder's choice to extend the lead.
An RBI double from Gooch and an RBI single from Wolfe plated two more, then the Lady Eagles stole a run on a first and third double steal to cap off the rally.
Wolfe drove in another run in the sixth to put the game in run-rule territory, and WBU closed out the win in six innings.
Emberlin Caldwell (W, 18-4) allowed just one earned run in 6.0 innings while fanning three Stars hitters.
GAME TWO - Williams 8, Stephens 5
Kaylee Wolfe, Brooke, Ashlyn Michael, and Taylor Youngblood all put up multiple hits in game two of the doubleheader.
The Stars got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, but Ashlyn Michael answered with a solo homer in the top of the second to even it up at 1-1.
An RBI single from Addison Foster gave Williams a 2-1 lead and sparked a five-run outburst in the top of the third. Michael and Youngblood each drove in a run with RBI knocks, and Breann Thresher added another pair on a two-run single that extended the lead to 6-1.
Stephens swung back with four unanswered runs to cut the deficit to 6-5 after five innings.
After a scoreless sixth on both sides, WBU got some insurance in the seventh on RBI singles from Kaelyn Gooch and Brooke Scott that pushed the lead back out to 8-5.
Stephens threatened in the bottom of the seventh after a one-out hit, but Madyson Busselle turned the double play for the final two outs to secure the sweep.
Morgan Garner (W, 15-7) earned the win after going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts. McKenna Bittle (Sv, 1) twirled three shutout innings with just one hit allowed to protect the lead in the late innings.
The wins move WBU to 35-11 overall and 13-1 in American Midwest Conference play. Next, the Lady Eagles will play host to Crowley's Ridge in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 21. First pitch of game one against the Pioneers is set for 2 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
