Eagles Roll Trojans in Doubleheader Sweep

HANNIBAL, Mo. (4/17/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept Hannibal-LaGrange in a conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at HLGU Field.

GAME ONE - Williams 10, Hannibal-LaGrange 0

Madyson Busselle, Breann Thresher, Ally Caudle, and Kaelyn Gooch each posted multi-hit games in the first game of the doubleheader.

After a scoreless first two innings, Caudle drove in the game's first run with a single in the top of the third.

After a scoreless fourth, the Lady Eagles broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Gooch gave WBU its first pair of insurance runs with a two-run triple, Busselle followed with an RBI single to make it 4-0, and Addison Foster finished off the rally with her AMC-leading 11th homer of the season to put Williams ahead 6-0.

In the sixth, Busselle smashed a grand slam to left field that put the Lady Eagles ahead by double digits and gave her five RBI in the contest.

With the insurance, Emberlin Caldwell (17-4) cruised to the win behind 6.0 shutout innings with six strikeouts.

GAME TWO - Williams 8, Hannibal-LaGrange 4

Ashlyn Michael (3-4, 2 2B, RBI), Breann Thresher (3-4, 2 RBI), and Brooke Scott (2-5, 3 RBI) cleared the way for the Lady Eagles on offense.

The Trojans scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first, but Williams responded with a five-run second inning to storm in front.

Thresher tied the game with an RBI single, then Brooke Scott singled to drive in two and put WBU ahead 3-2.  Busselle and Michael added RBI knocks to put the Lady Eagles ahead 5-1.

Scott struck again with an RBI single in the top of the third to extend the lead to 6-1.  HLGU swung back in the bottom of the third with a trio of runs to cut the lead to 6-4.  

Thresher added another insurance run with a single in the top of the fourth, and Addison Foster slugged her 12th homer of the season  in the sixth to give WBU an 8-4 advantage.

Morgan Garner (W, 14-7) held the Trojans off the board in the late innings to keep the lead intact.

Emberlin Caldwell (Sv, 1) entered the game with the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh and slammed the door with a strikeout and two foul fly outs to secure the sweep.

The sweep moves the Lady Eagles to 33-11 overall and 11-1 in American Midwest Conference play.

Next, WBU will face Stephens in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18.  First pitch of game one is set for 11 a.m. from Columbia, Mo.
