Lady Eagles Split With CBU in Tuesday Twinbill

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (3/31/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team battled to a doubleheader split against Christian Brothers on Tuesday at Bland Field.

GAME ONE - Williams 6, Christian Brothers 3

Christian Brothers scored the game's first run with a solo home run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

That advantage lasted until Addiston Foster opened up the top of the fourth with her seventh home run of the year to tie the game at 1-1.

Kaelyn Gooch followed with a two-run single to put the Lady Eagles on top 3-1.  Then, Breann Thresher stole home, and Brooke Scott doubled to score Gooch to cap off a five-run frame for WBU.

CBU scored twice in the bottom of the inning to cut into the lead, but an RBI single from Taylor Youngblood put a cap on scoring to give Williams the 6-3 win.

Emberlin Caldwell (W, 11-4) tossed a complete game with four strikeouts for her 11th win of the 2026 campaign.

Addison Foster (2-3, RBI, HR) and Kaelyn Gooch (1-3, 2 RBI, 2B) led the way for Williams at the plate.

GAME TWO - Christian Brothers 12, Williams 11 (8 Innings)

Kaylee Wolfe (3-5, 2 HR, 3B, 4 RBI) led the way for Williams in the second game of the day.

Wolfe led off the game with a solo homer to put WBU ahead 1-0, then followed with her second longball of the game in the top of the third to extend the lead to 2-0.

Taylor Youngblood hit the Lady Eagles' third home run of the game later in the frame to plate three more and put WBU ahead 5-0.

CBU responded in the bottom of the fifth with four runs to cut the deficit to one, but a sac fly from Kaelyn Gooch and a two-run bomb from IveyJo Perkins extended the Williams lead back to 9-4.

Down five runs, the Buccaneers fired back with a five-run bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 9-9 and send it to extra innings.  Wolfe continued her hot streak with a two-run triple to put WBU back in front 11-9 in the top of the eighth.

Despite the late heroics, CBU scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the comeback and steal the victory.

The split moves WBU to 22-10 overall this season.  The Lady Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 1, on the road against Bethel.  First pitch from McKenzie, Tenn., is set for 2 p.m.
