Garner’s Complete Game Leads Eagles to Split With No. 22 Texas A&M-Texarkana
TEXARKANA, Tex.. (2/13/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team took its first ranked win since the 2019 season behind a complete game shutout from Morgan Garner at No. 22 Texas A&M-Texarkana on Friday afternoon.
GAME ONE - Williams 2, (22) Texas A&M-Texarkana 0
Morgan Garner (2-2) took the win with a complete-game shutout. The Rector, Ark. native allowed just five hits and one walk to earn her second win of the season in the circle.
Madyson Busselle (2-3, 2B, RBI) led the way at the plate for the Lady Eagles.
Williams got on the board first with an RBI triple from Olivia Huckabee in the top of the second inning. TAMUT was held without a hit until a lead-off single in the third, but WBU turned a double play to end the threat.
Texarkana rallied again in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out three-bagger, but Garner induced a pop-fly for the third out to strand the tying run.
WBU got an insurance run in the sixth when Madyson Busselle brought home Breann Thresher with an RBI double.
Texarkana loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with one out, but Garner got two pop-outs on the infield to leave the bases loaded and secure the win for WBU.
The win is WBU's first over a ranked opponent since taking down No. 22 Southeastern on Mar. 2, 2019.
GAME TWO - (22) Texas A&M-Texarkana 6, Williams 2
Addison Foster (1-4, 2 RBI) and Kaelyn Gooch (2-4) led the way at the plate in the back half of the twinbill.
Texarkana got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single. The Eagles responded with a two-run knock from Addison Foster in the top of the third to go up 2-1.
TAMUT took the lead back with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning, and added another run to go up 4-2. A two-run double in the fourth gave Texarkana some more insurance on a 6-2 advantage.
WBU threatened with runners on in the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to rally to drop the second game of the doubleheader.
Emberlin Caldwell (2-2) got the loss in three innings of work. Morgan Garner held it down in relief with just one earned run in three innings of work. Alexis Snyder (2-1) earned the win for Texarkana.
The split puts WBU's record at 6-4 on the season. Next, the Lady Eagles return to Walnut Ridge to host Bethel (TN) on Saturday, Feb. 21. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the WBU Softball Field.
