Williams Splits With Henderson State in Saturday Doubleheader
PARAGOULD, Ark. (2/7/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team battled to a split with Henderson State from the GCT Softball Field on Saturday.
GAME ONE: Williams 5, Henderson State 4
Madyson Busselle led the Lady Eagles with two hits in the first game. Kaylee Wolfe drove in two runs, and Addison Foster and Chelsea Attkisson both drove in one.
After Henderson State struck for the game's first run in the top of the first, the Eagles struck back in the second when a groundout from Chelsea Attkisson drove in Kyrah Banister to tie and Breann Thresher scored on an error to give WBU the lead.
Addison Foster added on a run with a sacrifice fly in the third to put Williams up 3-1. Henderson responded with a three run sixth to take the lead 4-3, but a sac fly from Kaylee Wolfe in the bottom of the frame tied the game back at four.
Busselle hit a leadoff single in the seventh, but was stranded to send the game to extra innings. After Emberlin Caldwell shut down the Reddies in the top of the eighth, the Lady Eagles came up with a chance to win the game in the bottom half of the inning. Attkisson used a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third, then with two outs, Kaylee Wolfe slapped a single to right to drive in the game-winning run and give WBU a 5-4 win in eight.
Emberlin Caldwell (2-0) earned the win in the circle for WBU, and Jersey Cabana (0-2) was tagged with the loss for Henderson State.
GAME TWO: Henderson State 9, Williams 2
Addison Foster led WBU with two hits and an RBI in game two of the doubleheader.
Henderson State struck first with two runs in the first, then added on three in the third to go up 5-0. Addison Foster drove in WBU's first run with an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to four.
HSU added on three more in the top of the fourth and one more in the fifth to take a 9-1 lead. Kaelyn Gooch drove in Busselle in the fifth to make it 9-2, but Williams was held scoreless in the final two innings to fall in the back half of the twinbill.
Morgan Garner (1-1) was tagged with the loss for WBU after 3.2 innings of work. Presley Applegate (2-0) earned the win for Henderson State in a complete game effort.
The split moves WBU to 3-1 to begin the season. The Lady Eagles return to the field for the first two of a six-game roadstand on Tuesday, Feb 10 at Blue Mountain. First pitch against the Toppers is set for 2 p.m. from Blue Mountain, Miss.
