PARAGOULD, Ark. (2/6/26) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept a doubleheader with Hendrix in its first two games of the 2026 season by the final scores of 2-1 and 3-0 on Friday afternoon.
Breann Thresher led the way in game one, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Madyson Busselle went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Hendrix struck first in the top of the third with an RBI single. Williams tied it back up at 1-1 with a single to left field from Addison Foster that cashed in Madyson Busselle.
Breann Thresher drove in the game's winning run in the bottom six, plating Mariah Loya from second on an RBI single. Morgan Garner struck out the side in the top of the seventh to keep the lead intact and take WBU's first win of the season.
Garner (1-0) tossed seven innings with three hits and one earned run with 10 strikeouts. Emmaline Trosclair (0-1) took the loss for Hendrix.
Kaelyn Gooch led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 line with a run scored.
Emberlin Caldwell (1-0) twirled a shutout in her first outing of the season, allowing only two hits and a walk with nine strikeouts.
The Lady Eagles scored the game's first runs with a sacrifice fly from Addison Foster in the bottom of the first. Kaelyn Gooch scored on an infield pop up in the next at-bat to extend the lead to 2-0.
Williams was held scoreless until the sixth, when Brydon Maddox added an insurance run with an RBI single to put WBU up 3-0. Caldwell struck out the side in the seventh to end the game.
The Lady Eagles begin the season 2-0 for the third year in a row. Next, WBU will face Henderson State in a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 7. First pitch against the Reddies is set for 1 p.m. from the Greene County Tech Softball Field in Paragould, Ark.
