WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (4/11/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team battled late but ultimately fell to No. 15 Missouri Baptist in both games of a doubleheader by the final scores of 9-4 and 6-4 at the WBU Softball Field on Friday afternoon.
Madyson Busselle led the way at the plate in game one, going 1-for-3 with two RBI's on a home run.
The Spartans got on the board first in game one with a run in the first inning. After a scoreless second and third, MBU pulled out to a 6-0 lead after a three-run homer in the fourth and two RBI singles in the fifth.
WBU got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Kaelyn Gooch. Gooch came around to score later in the inning to cut the lead to 6-2. Madyson Busselle cut into the lead further with a two-run homer in the sixth to make it a two-run ballgame.
Despite the Eagles momentum, MBU posted three runs in the top of the seventh to solidify the win in game one by the final score of 9-4.
Natalia Watkins led the Lady Eagles at the plate in game two, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
After a scoreless first three innings, Missouri Baptist posted three unearned runs in the fourth to take the lead. Watkins came around to score in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1.
After MBU put up a run in the fifth, the Eagles responded in a big way in the sixth. Natalia Watkins hit a solo shot to cut the lead to two runs, then a two-out double from Ashlyn Michael tied the game at four.
MBU responded in the top of the seventh with two runs to take the lead back 6-4. The Lady Eagles threatened in the bottom of the inning with runners on first and second, but were unable to tie the game and fell 6-4.
The losses drop WBU to 24-12 overall and 8-6 in conference play. Next, WBU will face Hannibal-LaGrange on Senior Day at the WBU Softball Field on Saturday, Apr. 12. First pitch of game one is set for noon, with Senior Day festivities at the conclusion of game two.
