Lady Eagles Post Dominant Offensive Performance in Doubleheader Sweep of Harris-Stowe
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (4/7/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team routed Harris-Stowe in both games of an American Midwest Conference doubleheader on Monday by the final scores of 11-0 and 27-0.
Madyson Busselle led the way at the plate in game one, going 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Kaelyn Gooch also drove in two runs in a 2-for-3 performance.
Busselle put the Eagles on the board first with a two run single in the top of the first. Breann Thresher added an RBI and Ashlyn Michael scored on an error to give Williams a 4-0 lead at the end of the first.
WBU added on with two runs in the third on a two-run single from Gooch, then added five in the fifth to take the 11-0 run-rule victory.
Emberlin Caldwell pitched all five innings for WBU, allowing only two hits while striking out eight. Caldwell's eight punchouts moved her past Laura Helmich for the third-most strikeouts in WBU softball history, surpassing Helmich's 224 career strikeout mark.
The Lady Eagles continued to fire on all offensive cylinders in the second game of the doubleheader, bringing home 27 runs in a shutout victory.
WBU's 27-run performance is the second most runs scored in a game, trailing the record of 32 against LeMoyne-Owen in 2008.
The mark sets a new record for most runs scored in a conference game in program history, surpassing a 25-run outing against Harris-Stowe back in 2021. The Lady Eagles also tied for the fourth-most hits in a game at 22, fourth-most doubles in a game with six, and fourth-most RBI's in a game with 20.
Hannah Stallings led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI's. Rylee Boshell and Breann Thresher each tallied three hits and three RBI's. Kaylee Wolfe went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Madyson Busselle went 4-for-5 with two RBI's.
Morgan Garner tossed a complete game shutout for WBU, allowing only two hits and striking out five across five innings of work.
The wins move WBU to 22-10 overall and 6-4 in AMC play. Next, the Lady Eagles will finish off their road stand with a doubleheader against UHSP on Tuesday, Apr. 8. First pitch against the Eutectics is set for 1 p.m. from St. Louis, Mo.
