WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (3/13/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team swept Lyon in a doubleheader on Thursday by the final scores of 8-1 and 6-3.
Lyon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth of game one on a solo home run from Ashley Abel.
The Lady Eagles responded with an eight run inning in the bottom half of the fourth. Ashlyn Michael started the rally with a two-run homer to center to put WBU up 2-1.
Kaelyn Gooch drove in a run on a double, Hannah Stallings plated a run on a bunt single, and Natalia Watkins drove in three more on a bases clearing double. Watkins scored on a groundout to conclude the parade and put Williams up 8-1.
Emberlin Caldwell tossed all seven innings in the circle, striking out nine and only conceding one run.
The Scots took an early lead in game two on an Olivia Orf RBI double. Lyon pushed across another run in the third on an error to go up 2-0.
The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the third when Brooke Scott scored on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to one. Breann Thresher tied the game an inning later after scoring on another fielder's choice.
Scott put the Eagles on top with an RBI double to left field in the fourth. Kaylee Wolfe plated another run to extend the lead to 4-3. Madyson Busselle scored on an error and Thresher drove in a run on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to push the advantage to 6-2 after five.
Lyon got a run back in the sixth, but the Scots were unable to mount a comeback as WBU swept the doubleheader.
The wins move WBU to 13-6 overall on the year. Williams will face Christian Brothers at home on Tuesday, Mar. 18 in one final series before conference play begins. First pitch against the Bucs is set for 1 p.m. from the WBU Softball FIeld.
