BRANSON, Mo. (3/7/25) – After a 1-0 loss yesterday, the Williams Baptist University softball team came alive on offense with 8-1 and 12-4 wins over Culver-Stockton and Friends on day two of the Branson Grand Slam Classic on Friday morning.
WBU took down Culver-Stockton 8-1 in the first game of the day.
Madyson Busselle led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI's. Kaylee Wolfe followed up with two RBI's.
Wolfe gave the Lady Eagles the lead in the top of the third with an RBI single, then Hannah Stallings drove in Wolfe on a single to extend the lead to 2-0.
Morgan Garner went all seven innings in the circle for WBU with only one earned run and six strikeouts.
Williams stayed hot on offense by taking down Friends 12-4 in the second game of the day.
Kaelyn Gooch led the way at the plate on a 3-for-3 day with two RBI's and three runs scored. Hannah Stallings, Natalia Watkins, Ashlyn Michael, Brooke Scott, and Kaelyn Gooch each drove in two runs in the contest.
Friends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single. The Lady Eagles were scoreless through the first two innings before exploding for a 10-run frame in the bottom of the third.
A two-run double from Brooke Scott made it 2-1. The Eagles added on eight more runs in the inning to go up 10-1 through three. WBU struck for another run in the fourth to go up 11-1.
Friends fought back to stave off the run-rule with three runs in the top of the fifth, but WBU walked it off for the run-rule win in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The wins improve Williams to 9-4 overall on the season. WBU will finish up its time in Branson on Saturday, Mar. 8 against Hastings and Tabor. First pitch against Hastings is set for 8:30 a.m., and WBU will face Tabor at 12:30 p.m.
