WBU Drops Doubleheader to Freed-Hardeman

HENDERSON, Tenn. (3/1/25) – The Williams Baptist University softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against Freed-Hardeman on the second day of the FHU Classic on Saturday by the final scores of 5-3 and 8-0. 

Natalia Watkins kicked off the scoring in game one in the top of the first inning with an RBI single to put WBU up 1-0.  Madyson Busselle scored on an error in the second and Ashlyn Michael homered in the third to extend the lead to 3-0.

FHU struck back with runs in the third and fourth to cut the Eagles lead to one.  The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.

The Lady Eagles failed to capitalize with runners on second and third and two outs in the sixth inning and did not push any across in the seventh to fall 5-3.

McKenna Bittle started the game in the circle for WBU.  She tossed four innings with no earned runs.  Emberlin Caldwell took the loss after allowing three runs in two innings.

Williams fell 8-0 in game two after five innings.  Hannah Stallings, Breann Thresher, and Kaelyn Gooch had the only hits for WBU.

FHU took a 3-0 lead after two innings, then added five more in the third to go up by eight.  

The losses drop Williams to 7-3 overall on the season.  The Lady Eagles will return to the diamond on Thursday, Mar. 6 for the first game of the Branson Grand Slam Classic against Our Lady of the Lake.  First pitch from Branson, Mo. is set for 4 p.m.
