Lady Eagles Split With Missouri Baptist

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Williams softball team split their Saturday doubleheader with the Missouri Baptist Spartans. The Spartans took game one 5-0, while the Lady Eagles took game two 9-8. The Lady Eagles are now 15-25 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

Game One

The first game of the day was not the best offensively for the Lady Eagles, as they only collected one hit in the game. It came off the bat of Kaydra Cole who hit a double in the fifth inning. 

Tori Kierbach got the start and threw 5.0 innings. She gave up five runs off 10 hits and walked two. Cassidi Doyle pitched 1.0 inning and struck out one. 

Game Two

The second was much better offensively for the Lady Eagles. They took the lead in second when Kennedie Laymance hit a RBI single up the middle. The Spartans took the lead in the third inning when they plated five runs. Williams responded their next at-bat with five runs of their own to retake the lead. Laymance again hit a single to the outfield that brough home two runs, then Alyssa Cordell hit a bases-clearing double to left field. The Spartans retook the lead with two runs in the fifth to take a 6-7 lead. The Lady Eagles responded in the sixth with three runs to give themselves a 9-7 lead. Cordell got a RBI walk with the bases loaded, Megan Weis hit a RBI single to right field, and Cole hit a RBI sac fly. Missouri Baptist tried to rally in the sixth, but all they were able to get was one run. 

Angel Gillette got the start and threw all 7.0 innings for the Lady Eagles. She gave up eight runs off nine hits, walked one and struck out two.

The Lady Eagles host Rust University on Tuesday, April 19 for a doubleheader at WBU Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
