IRVING, Texas - The Williams softball team opened up their 2022 season with a doubleheader sweep of NCAA Div. III opponent, University of Dallas. They won game one 6-1 and got a 12-4 run-rule victory in six innings for game two.
Game One
It took the Lady Eagles a few innings to settle in, but facing a 1-0 deficit in the fifth, Williams got on the board with a three-run bomb from Kaydra Cole over the left field wall. The Lady Eagles added two more runs in the sixth inning off a RBI single from Alyssa Cordell and a RBI double from Macy Carter. They added one more in the seventh off a RBI sac fly from Kennedie Laymance.
Angel Gillette pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles and was credited with the win. She gave up one run off six hits, walked one and struck out eight.
Game Two
Williams picked up in game two where they left off in game one. They plated two runs in the second after Kennedy Johnson stole home and Megan Weis hit a RBI single. In the third inning they scored three runs after Madison Stokes hit a 2 RBI double and then came around to score after an error by the third baseman. They continued to add to their lead in the fourth when Cole hit a RBI double. University of Dallas added four runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Lady Eagles' lead down to one run. Williams responded in the fifth inning when Weis reached on a RBI fielder's choice and Ryleigh Tingle hit a 2 RBI single. They continued to add in the sixth when Anna Besand hit a 2 RBI double and Krista Jones hit a RBI single. After Dallas was unable to score in the bottom half of the sixth, the Lady Eagles were awarded a run-rule victory.
Cassidi Doyle got the start in the circle and pitched 3.1 innings. She allowed four runs off two hits, walked four and struck out four. Tori Kierbach pitched 2.2 innings of relief and walked two. Doyle was credited with the win.

The Lady Eagles travel to Holly Springs, Miss. on Tuesday, Feb. 15 for a doubleheader against Rust College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
