Eagles Finish Fourth at SAC Wrestling Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas. (2/23/26) – The Williams Baptist University wrestling team finished fourth at the Sooner Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships hosted by Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday.

The Eagles collected 79.5 points as a team, ahead of fifth place Central Baptist with 41.  Oklahoma City claimed the SAC team championship after winning nine of the 10 brackets and earning 192.5 points.

Matthew Russell led the way for the Eagles with a second place finish in the 184.  Russell clinched a second place finish after taking down the No. 1 seed Dayne Stormer by default.

Caiden Saavedra followed up with a third place finish in the 149 weight class.  Saavedra won the third place match by fall over CBC's Alex Lopez.  Overall, he collected three wins in the bracket.

Micah Oltmanns also brought home a bronze medal finish in the 197.  James Opitz (174), Roman Corral (285), and Tevin Minney (165) each finished fourth in their respective brackets, and Ezekiel Gasca (133) brought home a fifth place finish.

Next, WBU will await word on possible qualifiers for the NAIA National Championships.  The NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championships are set to take place March 5-7 at Heartland Credit Union Arena in Wichita, Kan.
