Saavedra Tabbed SAC Wrestler of the Week

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. (2/10/26) – Williams Baptist University wrestling freshman Caiden Saavedra was named Sooner Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week for his effort at the Missouri Valley Open, the conference announced Tuesday morning.

Saavedra went 5-0 to take first place in the 149 lb. weight class at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Mo. on Saturday.  It was his second tournament gold of the season.

He racked up two wins by fall, then took a win by major decision (10-1) in the first place match over Central Methodist's Gavin Shoush.

Saavedra is the first wrestler in program history to earn Sooner Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week honors, and the first wrestler to win any weekly conference honor since Isaiah Vizcarrondo was named AMC Wrestler of the Week in December of 2022.

Saavedra and the Eagles return to the mat on Saturday, Feb. 21 for the Sooner Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships in Fort Worth, Tex.
