Eagles Take Down Scots in Home Dual Finale

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (1/15/26) – The Williams Baptist University wrestling team capped off an undefeated week of duals inside the Southerland-Mabee Center with a 33-17 win over Lyon on Friday afternoon.

As a team, WBU held the advantage in takedowns 7-5.  The Eagles took one win by fall, one by major decision, and one by technical fall.

After Lyon took the first six points of the dual, Caiden Saavedra responded with a win by major decision (15-4) in the 149 to put Williams up 10-6.

Tevin Minney (165) followed with a win by fall in 47 seconds, and Matthew Russell (184) took a tech fall win (20-3, 2:56) to add on.  Lyon took the final two wins to claim 11 points.

Landon Holmes (141), Clay Crane (157), and James Opitz (174) each earned six points for WBU via forfeit wins.

The win moves WBU to 3-4 in duals overall this season.  Next, the Eagles will travel to Marshall, Mo. for the Missouri Valley Invite.  The tournament is set to start on Friday, Jan. 23 and run through Saturday, Jan. 24
