Long Ball Propels Eagles to Split With Owls

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Williams baseball team split their Thursday doubleheader with the William Woods Owls, dropping game one 6-0 and winning game two 8-5. The Eagles are now 24-27 overall and 6-14 in conference play.

Game One

The first game was not pretty for the Eagles as they saw themselves get no hit by the Owls. 

Spencer Burnham got the start on the mound for the Eagles and pitched 5.0 innings. He gave up six runs off seven hits, walked two and struck out six. Cole Manning pitched 1.0 inning of relief and gave up one hit, while striking out one. Cash Forrester pitched 1.0 inning of relief and struck out two. 

Game Two

Game two was much better for the Eagles. The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Eagles were able to get a grand slam in the third inning off the bat of Nick Allred to take a 4-1 lead. The Owls retook the lead in the sixth when they plated four runs to lead 5-4. The Eagles tied the game in the seventh off a solo shot from Isaac Williams. Williams gave the Eagles the lead an inning later with a 3-run shot to lead 8-5. 

Brady Sterns pitched 6.0 innings and gave up five runs off 10 hits, walked one and struck out four. Parker Jeffries pitched 3.0 innings of relief and struck out five. 

Up Next

The Eagles will finish out the regular season tomorrow with a Senior Day before their final game against the Owls. Senior Day festivities will begin around 11:30 with first pitch to follow at noon.
